Kindergarten – 6th Grade
The art curriculum for Kindergarten through 6th provides the foundation for understanding the visual arts. Students will explore and study artistic methods in various mediums to learn how to create artistic works of their own. The appreciation of art and how a piece is made come from integrated art history lessons appropriate for each grade level.
7th and 8th Grade
Students will expand their knowledge and deepen their understanding of art history with a focus on specific master artists. The 7th and 8th grade students will also have the opportunity to create pieces in the respective artistic styles being studied. An overview of color-mixing, value scale, techniques in drawing, painting and more will be concentrated throughout the academic year.
Visual Arts Electives
Graphic Design, Mrs. Kauffman (available 9th – 12th Grade)
This course explores the commercial aspects of art. Techniques include freehand drawing, lettering, painting and computer-enhancement for commercial advertising, posters and illustrations.
Set Design, Mrs. Kauffman (available 9th – 12th Grade)
This course will introduce the students to the principles and elements of visual design as it relates to the areas of scenery, costume, and lighting, allowing the student to apply these principles to research and design for play production. Classroom requirements include backstage participation in TCA Theatre semester productions.
