Nick Gard is a lawyer and real estate professional with a background in tax and business law. Nick graduated with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Accounting from the University of Florida and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Virginia Tax Review. After graduating from law school, Nick clerked for two federal judges before beginning private practice with White & Case in Washington, DC, where he specialized in tax controversy and litigation. Nick represented corporate taxpayers in domestic tax controversy proceedings, from federal tax audits through refund litigation, as well as cross-border tax disputes and transfer pricing matters. Representative clients included multinational private equity firms, sovereign wealth funds, energy companies, and tech companies, among others. Nick's practice involved cases before the U.S. courts, foreign courts, and international arbitration tribunals. Nick has been published in Tax Management International Journal, and he served as Treasurer and Steering Committee Member of the Federal Bar Association Section on Taxation. Nick and his wife Dr. Kathryn Gard, an Ob/Gyn, returned to Sarasota to raise their three children, where Nick has practiced both tax and business law and real estate. Nick is a member of Church of the Palms. His oldest daughter is a first grader at TCA. Last year, Nick taught a Constitutional Law elective in TCA's upper school.
